Endowed Scholarship Funds

Anonymously Endowed Fund for Scholarships

Established by a family who wishes to remain anonymous, this endowment provides funds to students with demonstrated financial need and the potential for outstanding academic achievement.

 

Anonymously Endowed Scholarship

Established by a Berkeley family, this scholarship supports a full-tuition scholarship to benefit a Lower, Middle, or Upper Division student who demonstrates financial need, as well as potential for academic achievement.

 

The Avery Family Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Suzanne and Paul Avery to give a student, who otherwise would not be able to attend Berkeley, the opportunity to benefit from the Berkeley experience.

 

The Baldwin Family Scholarship

Bryan Baldwin ’73 established this scholarship fund for students who demonstrate financial need and academic promise, with a preference for minority students.

 

Berkeley Open Alumni Scholarship

Established by Berkeley alumni, the Berkeley Open is the annual golf tournament fundraiser that has become a school favorite, selling out quickly each year. The financial support from this event has made the Berkeley Open Scholarship a reality. Since this scholarship reached full endowment status, all funds from the event now support the Endowed Alumni Scholarship Fund.

 

The Charles Courtney Mills ’88 Scholarship

Established in memory of Charles Courtney Mills, Class of 1988, by John Mills Sr., this endowed partial scholarship is awarded to a qualified student with demonstrated financial need who will benefit from the Berkeley experience.

 

The E.C. Smith Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2000 in honor of founding faculty member E.C. Smith by one of his former students. Funds are awarded to an Upper Division student with demonstrated financial need and the potential for outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and an appreciation for and participation in the arts.

 

The Elaine Newman Endowed Scholarship

Established by Elaine Newman’s family, this scholarship honors Elaine in perpetuity for her many contributions and her dedication to Berkeley as a parent and grandparent.

 

The Endowed Alumni Scholarship Fund

Berkeley’s alumni were one of the first groups to recognize the need for scholarships and thus established this endowed fund. It now provides four full scholarships to students with demonstrated financial need. Recipients must demonstrate the potential for outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and participation in and contributions to extracurricular pursuits.

 

Ford Alumni Endowed Scholarship

Established by a grant from the Edward E. Ford Foundation, which was matched by contributions from Berkeley alumni, this scholarship is awarded to an Upper Division student with demonstrated financial need and the potential for outstanding academic achievement.

 

The Happel Family Endowed Scholarship

Mike Happel ’81 and Paul Happel ’82 established this endowment in gratitude for the doors of opportunity Berkeley opened for them, and it will open Berkeley’s doors to qualified students who otherwise would not be able to attend our school.

 

Iglehart Family Scholarship

Created in memory of Barbara K. Mueller, a special grandmother, this partial scholarship provides funds for a student that has demonstrated academic ability, desire, and financial need.

 

The Joseph A. Merluzzi Endowed Scholarship

Named in honor of Joseph A. Merluzzi and his years of dedicated service to all Berkeley students as Headmaster from 1987–2011. Funded by Parents’ Club activities, this endowment currently provides scholarships for students with demonstrated financial need who have the potential for outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and participation in and contributions to extracurricular pursuits.

 

The Leslie Frost Sable ’87 Scholarship

This scholarship was established by members of the Class of 1987 in memory of one of their classmates, Leslie. This partial-tuition scholarship is awarded to an Upper Division student with demonstrated financial need and the potential for outstanding academic achievement.

 

Majumdar Family Scholarship

Established by the Majumdar family, this scholarship gives a student, who otherwise would not be able to attend Berkeley, the opportunity to benefit from the Berkeley experience. This scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates financial need and academic promise.

 

The Martha S. DeWeese Scholarship

Established by Stephanie DeWeese Sadowski ’91 to recognize the contributions of Martha DeWeese to Berkeley and the broader scientific community. This scholarship fund is for an Upper Division student with demonstrated financial need and a passion for the biological sciences.

 

The Murray Family Scholarship

Established by the Murray family, this partial-tuition scholarship is awarded to a qualified student with demonstrated financial need who will benefit from the Berkeley experience.

 

The Ross Brown ’75 Scholarship

Established in memory of Ross Newcomb Brown, Class of 1975, by his family, this partial scholarship is awarded to a Middle or Upper Division student who demonstrates the potential for outstanding achievement and continues high achievement in science.

 

The Rothman Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the Bob Rothman family to give students who otherwise would not be able to attend Berkeley the opportunity to benefit from the Berkeley experience.

 

Students Helping Students Endowed Scholarship

Established in 1987 by Berkeley students, funds from this endowment are made available for unforeseen expenses by students of demonstrated financial need.

Established by the Jeff Wooley family, this endowment provides funds to enhance faculty benefits.

 

The 50th Anniversary Service Scholar Award

Established to celebrate Berkeley’s first day of school, the 50th Anniversary Service Scholar Award recognizes the student who exemplifies, in an extraordinary way, the essential values of Berkeley Preparatory School: academic excellence, discipline, diligence, integrity, and an awareness of and concern for his/her community and the world beyond.

 

The 1966 Fund
